Sour Drops
Sept. – dec. 2025
Phototek, Esbjerg
Pressrelease
Phototek Esbjerg presents a fascinating photo exhibition by Jakob Hunosøe. Experience photographs that transform everyday banal objects into fascinating works of art.
The title SOUR DROPS refers to the distinct sharpness, color saturation, and delicate format of the individual works: small photographs in large frames, which give air around the images and sharpen the expression. From a distance, the images can appear as “small spots of color” or “sour drops,” meant to entice the viewer closer.
“It’s about finding the magic in what’s near. Lifting your gaze and seeing. Quite simply. Seeing.” – Hunosøe
The exhibition is accompanied by a so-called leporello book, which has zigzag folds and can be pulled out like an accordion. The book will be available in the exhibition and is a gift to the public.
About Jakob Hunosøe
Jakob Hunosøe (b. 1975) is educated at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Hunosøe’s works are minimalist photographs of sculptural installations – without digital post-processing.
Through rearrangement of everyday banal objects, Hunosøe takes things out of their context, explores and reveals hidden possibilities in the reality that surrounds us. Hunosøe thereby challenges our perception of the familiar everyday. His fascinating artworks charm, provoke thought, and often evoke a smile.
The exhibition is supported by Johan Hoffmann Foundation, Lida & Oscar Nielsen’s Foundation, Spar Nord Foundation, Esbjerg Ugeavis’ Foundation, and Esbjerg Municipality’s Libraries.

The word “bricolage” originates from French and refers to an approach where one uses the materials, tools, and resources available to create or repair something without necessarily following traditional methods or rules. It can also refer to working with what is at hand and improvising with the available means.
In the exhibition “Bricolage,” Jakob Hunosøe does exactly this. Using simple tools, Hunosøe transforms everyday objects into atypical sculptural installations, which he documents through photography.
The exhibition features 25 new photographic works. Designer Kasper Kyster created seating furniture for the exhibition.
